“Seeking solutions for autistic children’s obsession with elevators”

Hello, my 5-year-old son was diagnosed with autism at around age 2. He currently attends a special preschool and has attention deficit issues. Since childhood, he has shown an inexplicable obsession with elevators (?) and all buttons, such as door buttons. I used to think he would outgrow it, but now it seems to be worsening.  For example, when passing by elevators, he will go to look at the door switches. If he is on the elevator and others press the button faster than him, he gets angry and upset.

Sometimes, after school, when he presses the button for the 18th floor (our floor), he insists on pressing G/F. If we don’t let him, he has a meltdown and screams. Do these behaviors typically require behavioral therapy from a clinical psychologist or even medication prescribed by a doctor? Thank you!
