Inclusive Silent Disco at AIA Carnival Celebrates Neurodiversity

On February 16th, 2025, Neurodiversity Hong Kong hosted its much-loved inclusive silent disco at the AIA Carnival, creating a safe and joyful experience for families. This sensory-friendly event welcomed 125 participants and their families, including students from Neurodiversity Hong Kong, Po Leung Kuk Anita L.L. Chan Centenary School, and community members from Optism.

The silent disco allowed participants to enjoy music at their own comfort level using wireless headphones, ensuring a stress-free and inclusive environment for everyone, including those with sensory sensitivities. Families shared moments of connection, laughter, and fun in a space tailored to their needs.

Sensory-Friendly Fun for Neurodiverse Families

The event was designed to provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere for neurodiverse families. For parents of autistic children, it was a rare opportunity to relax and enjoy an activity where their children could feel completely at ease.

Parents expressed gratitude for the event, noting how it fostered a sense of belonging and community while promoting meaningful connections between families.

Arts and Crafts: Creative Activities for Autistic Children

In addition to the music, the event featured a vibrant arts and crafts station. Optism supported this creative space by providing art supplies, including materials for origami, festive Chinese New Year cards, and colorful drawings.

Families gathered on the field to explore their creativity, with children proudly displaying their creations and parents enjoying quality time with their kids. The arts and crafts activities added an engaging and hands-on element to the day, complementing the silent disco perfectly.

Collaboration for Inclusion: Neurodiversity Hong Kong and Optism

The success of the event was made possible through the collaboration of Neurodiversity Hong Kong, Optism, and other community partners. Neurodiversity Hong Kong led the efforts, with the support of 25 dedicated volunteers who ensured everything ran smoothly.

AIA generously provided free admission for all participants, making the event accessible to families from all walks of life. Optism contributed by supplying art materials and encouraging participation from its network, further enriching the event experience.
