On 22nd May, Optism, in collaboration with The Children’s Institute of Hong Kong and The Harbour School, hosted an engaging life planning webinar led by Anisha Ramanathan, Partner of the Family Law team at Withers Hong Kong. This session was designed for families with neurotypical children as well as those with special educational needs, including families of autistic children, to help them confidently plan for their future in Hong Kong and Asia.
The session covered vital topics such as will writing, focusing on how to ensure both financial and emotional security for families through proper planning, and guardianship, highlighting the key considerations when appointing legal guardians for children. Special attention was given to families of children with special educational needs, offering tailored legal insights to address unique challenges, including questions like, “What if my adult-aged child accidentally signs legally binding documents?” and guidance on selecting the right guardian to secure their future.
The webinar saw active participation from over 45 parents, underscoring the growing need for tailored legal and planning support among families in the SEN community. Parents were highly engaged throughout the session, seeking guidance on selecting the right guardian to secure their child’s future, reflecting the importance of addressing these unique and pressing concerns.
